Shorty's chicks

The first two chicks popped out at dawn. I know this because I neurotically moved hen and eggs into the dining room last night due to the expected single digit temps. At 5am the frantic peeping woke me up so I dashed to the brooder coop to see what was what. One damp little alien was flopping about with the second little alien still coming out of the shell. Within a couple of hours they had fluffed right on out. A third one hatched out this afternoon and is still fluffing up. Stay tuned for eggs 4 through 7...

OMG..the cute button is overloading and a circuit is going to blow!

Just look at that little messy headed cutie looking right at the camera.

Uh..please tell me those aren't meat birds, right? Nice layers..yes?

Nope on the meat birds. I'm too wussy to cull them. I have been warned to not name this lot after 3 of the last 4 turned into roos. So now I'm going to have to rehome some baby roos. Want a rooster? :)
Fingers crossed that this lot is all sweet little girls! These two are buff orp/Gold laced wyandotte mutts so they ought to be fabulous egg layers.
They are too adorable for words!

Oh Anne, so adorable! Where did the time go? It seems like you just gave her those eggs! Congratulations on your new babies!

Thanks, Karen!
This one did go by fast! I guess because I wasn't the nervous mess I was last time. :)
Fifi the other silkie has given up motherhood and started laying again. Clearly that means she'll be broody within the week. Sigh... silkies... :)

Tell me about it! I've got 4 broodies right now. I have one of the girls sitting on my own *hopefully* pure white/blue/splash Silkie eggs. Why? Who knows? I must be crazy - the last thing I need around here is to raise MORE potential broodies!!!

Bwaaahaaahaaa! More silkies! You are officially crazy (although I do love white, splash and blue silkies). I'm behaving because I want to add BBS ameraucanas next. And then I have a friend that offered to trade wheaten/blue wheaten ameraucanas. And then I want some barred rocks and then...
:)
