Moved into the Big Girl pen

The baby silkies aren't babies any more. They moved outside and are doing great, despite the unseasonably cold weather we are having.

A shot for scale. They are still pretty little compared to the ginormous rooster that rules the roost in that pen.

The babies are all fascinated with Fred the Cat. They rush the fence every time he comes to visit.

A pen full of fuzzy!

I will end up selling most of this lot. There are a couple that look really, really good. The others will all be sold. I have another dozen silkie eggs in the incubator, plus two of the grown hens in this pen have gone broody. I gave them a half dozen eggs and told them to go for it. In about a month I am going to be covered up with silkies! I see a huge spring silkie sell coming.

I can't remember how I found your blog - but I love those fuzz heads!! I can't wait to get a few of my own.

Thanks! They are the happiest chickens ever. I go sit in there pen and they toddle about making happy chicken sounds. It is so peaceful.
I had three four-week old chicks that I needed to integrate into that pen. Usually you have to be so careful. With this lot I combined them after a week of side by side living. When I checked on them last night the tiny babies were piled up in the middle of all the bigger silkies, happy and toasty warm. It was so sweet!
