But, sadly, we are back to three...

The chipmunk marked baby died today. She fell out of the coop last night and got chilled before I found her and put her back under mama. She struggled all day, and died this afternoon despite my best efforts. It's a sad part of having pets, but an inevitable one, I guess. The baby was quite lovely. It's sad that we won't get to see her grow up.

I'm so sorry about the baby chick. You have done a great job keeping 17 + 4 + now 3 babies alive. Chickens can be fragile. Honor the little one by loving on the other three.

That's sad.. The chicks are so fragile, it's a miracle that they do grow up!

Forgive yourself, Anne. These things happen. My last batch, one of the chicks jumped in the water bucket and couldn't get out. It was dead when I found it and I felt terrible. It's the way things go sometimes. Shorty did a great job hatching her babies! They're really cute!

Thanks all! The other three are doing great and are zipping about the run with mama. I've had a really good run of luck with chicks that just couldn't last. I'm mostly bummed that the really pretty one died. :(

We are so sorry you lost a baby chick, and that it was your special favorite, too.
